Transportation Services

Volunteer drivers are needed to transport the elderly to senior dining centers and medical appointments in Red Cross vehicles. Drivers must have a current Kansas license, a good driving record, be at least 21 years old, and enjoy working with the elderly.

  • Good Neighbor Nutrition Program Drivers - Transport participants to and from senior dining centers and also deliver hot meals to those who are temporarily homebound. Drivers are needed Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
  • Medical Drivers - Pick up elderly at their homes, take them to medical appointments, then return them to their homes. Drivers are needed Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Community Preparedness

  • Community Disaster Education - Conducts educational seminars on disaster preparedness, general Red Cross Disaster Services information, and volunteer recruitment.

Disaster Response & Planning - Disaster Services
  • Disaster Class Instructor - trains volunteers and paid staff in Disaster Services courses.
  • Emergency Assistance Interviewer - interviews disaster victims to provide assistance with emergency, basic needs.
  • Disaster Action Team (DAT) Member - provides on-call, 24-hour response on a scheduled basis to disasters in a five-county area.
  • Disaster Services National Volunteer - available to accept three-week disaster operational assignments within the United States or U.S. Territory.

Family Services - Emergency Financial Assistance

  • Casework Assistant - A warm, caring, impartial, empathetic volunteer who interviews clients, verifies eligibility, and assists with case decisions regarding financial assistance. Requires strong interpersonal skills.

Health & Services - Volunteers are needed to work in a variety of capacities.

  • Volunteer Instructors - Teach First Aid, CPR, HIV/AIDS education, small craft safety and babysitting courses weekdays, weekday evenings, and Saturdays. Basic and Instructor level training is required. Must be at least 17 to volunteer as an instructor.

  • Administrative Support - Primarily in the area of data entry, is needed in the Health & Safety Services office.

Volunteers are needed to do mannequin cleaning, repair and maintenence. Hours are flexible (Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) and training is provided.

Good Neighbor Nutrition Program

Volunteers are needed to work at senior dining centers throughout the city. This program provides elderly residents with a nutritious noon-time meal Monday through Friday, as well as an opportunity to interact socially with others.

  • Site Supervisor Assistants - help with the day-to-day operation of the senior dining center.
  • Registrars - greet participants at the dining center, take meal reservations, and maintain records for participants and reservations.
  • Activity Coordinators - plan, coordinate, and announce all activities.
  • Host/Hostesses - greet volunteers, visitors, entertainers, speakers, and agency staff.

Volunteer Services

  • Production Assistants - Prepare "special project" materials for bulk mailings. Great opportunity for volunteers who are not available to work on a regular basis.
  • Office Assistants - Provide clerical support for departmental programs and services. Typing, filing, and phone skills are needed; computer skills are a plus!
  • Mascot Volunteers - Wear the Red Cross St. Bernard costume "Reddy" at special events. Must be in good physical condition and like to greet children who want to hug Reddy. Volunteers are also needed to escort the mascot.

Fairs, booths and more! We need volunteers to attend community fairs as representatives of Red Cross distributing information and answering basic questions about Midway-Kansas Chapter. Training is provided and volunteer opportunities vary depending on the request.Help Red Cross tell our story!
