Each service the Red Cross provides makes our community healthier, stronger or more prepared.
Please donate blood or platelets to help your community. Almost every person will know someone who needs blood - and there’s a one in three chance it will be you who needs blood or platelets. Don’t wait to donate blood - please help make sure the blood is tested, processed and ready to transfuse when that need arises.
Give Blood
Did you know your American Red Cross has two primary parts?
Red Cross Blood Services Regions (locally the Central Plains Region) are touching more lives than ever before. We’ve provided the nation with as safe as possible blood products for generations. And today, we continue setting new standards for blood safety and quality.
Red Cross chapters (locally the Midway-Kansas Chapter) provide social services such as disaster relief, Armed Forces Emergency Services, CPR & first aid training, and additionally, as in the case of the Midway-Kansas Chapter, Senior Medical Transportation, Good Neighbor Nutrition Program, Senior Work Experience Project (SWEP), Braille Services and community disaster preparedness education.
Why Two Parts?
Because blood is considered a drug that goes into the body to help heal, Blood Services Regions comply with strict drug manufacturing regulations overseen by the Food and Drug Administration. Operationally, a manufacturing facility differs greatly from a social services agency, so the Red Cross has two branches that function separately, but work together to provide our ultimate goal – high quality, relevant services that help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
